Understanding the role and limitations of our AI CFI
Critical Safety Information
The AI CFI is an educational supplement only. It is NOT a replacement for instruction from a human certificated flight instructor (CFI). Never use AI-generated information as your sole source for flight safety decisions.
What the AI CFI Is
Our AI CFI is an artificial intelligence tool designed to:
- Provide practice questions similar to those you may encounter on oral exams
- Help you review aviation knowledge and regulations
- Supplement your study routine between lessons with your human CFI
- Offer explanations of aviation concepts in an interactive format
- Give you a Socratic-style learning experience to reinforce knowledge
What the AI CFI Is NOT
- NOT a certificated flight instructor: The AI holds no FAA certificates and cannot legally provide flight instruction
- NOT loggable instruction time: Time spent using the AI does not count toward any FAA training requirements
- NOT able to provide endorsements: The AI cannot sign your logbook or issue any endorsements required for checkrides
- NOT infallible: AI systems can make mistakes, misinterpret questions, or provide outdated information
- NOT aircraft-specific: While we try to provide aircraft-relevant information, always consult your actual POH/AFM
- NOT a substitute for practical training: Flying skills can only be developed in an actual aircraft with a qualified instructor
AI Accuracy and Errors
While our AI is trained to provide accurate aviation information, you should be aware:
- AI can hallucinate: Large language models may occasionally generate plausible-sounding but incorrect information
- Regulations change: The AI's training data may not reflect the most recent regulatory changes or ADs
- Context matters: The AI may not fully understand your specific training situation, aircraft, or operating environment
- No situational awareness: The AI cannot assess weather, aircraft condition, or other real-world factors
Best Practice: Always verify important information from the AI against official FAA publications, your aircraft's POH, and your human CFI.
Official Sources You Should Use
- 14 CFR (Federal Aviation Regulations): The legal requirements for pilots and aircraft
- FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS): The official standards for your checkride
- FAA Handbooks: PHAK, AFH, IFH, and other official training materials
- Your Aircraft's POH/AFM: The authoritative source for your specific aircraft
- FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam): Current safety information and best practices
- Your Human CFI: The only person who can legally instruct you and sign you off
Your Responsibilities
By using the AI CFI, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You understand this is an AI tool, not a human instructor
- You will verify all critical information from authoritative sources
- You will continue training with a certificated flight instructor
- You accept responsibility for your own aviation decisions
- You will not rely solely on AI-generated information for flight safety
- You understand the AI cannot make you "checkride ready" on its own
